How To Upload Photos Directly To Instagram From Your Computer

Hey there everyone! I just wanted to share this trick I learned while I was trying to upload a photo to Instagram. You might already know this, but I didn’t. Just want to share this with anyone who doesn’t know how to do this 🙂

Whether you are a newbie or expert, you know that photography is an integral part of blogging. You may spend hours every week taking a curating photographs to use for posts, social media, and outreach. With that in mind, it can easily become very annoying to transfer photographs to your phone in order to upload on Instagram, or always having to use third party apps.

When you go to, you can log in and view photos, like photos, and view feeds but you can’t upload photos from the desktop version…

…unless you try this!

  1. Make sure you are using the Safari browser
  2. Go to the Preferences tab.

  1.  Go to Advanced. Check the ‘Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar’ box on the bottom (it will be blue if it is checked)

At this point, Instagram should reload, and you should see the same options you have on the app on the desktop. It doesn’t look like you can edit photos the same way you can from the app, so I think this is best for when you have pictures on your computer that have been edited already and just need to be uploaded.

  1. OMG, this is gonna come in handy!! Sometimes after I edit pictures I have to air drop them to my phone but this may be easier! Can you add your hashtags in the comments to within the first ten minutes?

  2. This is a useful tip! Another trick I use is which allows you to queue up posts for later. It doesn’t directly post photos from your laptop. But if you download the Buffer app on your phone, it sends you a notification when it’s time to post. The app then opens the photo in Instagram and all you have to do is paste the caption!

    • Ooh that sounds really useful! I’ll need to download that, especially for when I improve my Instagram.

I’m still waiting for Instagram to allow third party apps to post directly to the app 😫

  3. You won’t believe but I recently bought a MacBook .. haha and this is what I really needed. Everything works so differently on this system. I’ve to google search every time I’m stuck.. thank you for the post 🙂 at least all queries resolved regarding instagram !!
