If you’ve been reading this blog for some time, you know that I am quite the connoisseur of beauty supply store cosmetics. For the most part (as there are always exceptions), the quality is good, the shade ranges are plentiful, and most importantly: the prices are fantastic. Today, I come to you to share one of my all-time favourite lip products…..
The L.A. Girl Matte Pigment Glosses have been around for a few months now. I first got my hands on these back in March in the shades Backstage, Rebel, and Secret. In my first impressions post, I am wearing the shade Backstage, a deep berry/red colour. While I like the colour of that one, the formula is on the thinner side so it tends to apply a bit patchy. This isn’t too much of an issue since it dries fast enough to allow more applications to build up the opacity to your liking. Regardless, for my “everyday” shade, I wanted to use something less red and more in the berry family I prefer.
In comes Rebel. Rebel is a nice berry pink that is pretty wearable for most skin tones in my opinion. These retail for $4.00-$6.00 from what I’ve seen, and for that you get 0.17 fl oz of product, the average amount of product you get in a lipstick/gloss. You may think that you’re getting more than that since the packaging of these glosses is gargantuan, but no. It’s not a problem though since, as I’ll discuss further down, you don’t need that much product.
The glosses promise to, “…provide rich, intense color in a flat finish for all day wear. The long wearing formula goes on as a high pigmented liquid and dries to a flat matte finish. Leaving lips colored in gorgeous velvety perfection that last and lasts.”
I find this to be more true for Rebel than I did Backstage or even Secret. All three of these colours last all day, but the “velvety perfection” part not so much. Rebel is the best of the three shades with regard to fulfilling all of these promises.
As you can see from the swatches above, the colour is very rich and intense. This was just one swipe of product. If you can see from the close up of the applicator, the formula for this shade is not extremely liquid-y and very opaque. It applies very smoothly and evenly, and dries down sort of tacky. Once it starts feeling tacky, that is when you know it’s done drying and won’t move on you.
The lasting power of this stuff is no joke. I have eaten with this on, kissed with it, washed my face, showered, and it does not move. The only things that have worked to remove it are oil based products/foods. Usually, even after washing my face for the night, I have to go in and use a scrub to remove the last remnants of it from my lips, as it is stained with the colour. I have a video below of me with the swatch (this was me trying to wash it off for a second time).
I definitely plan on buying more of these, as their performance is fantastic. Please let me know your opinions of this product!
