Why I continue to purchase eyeshadow like I wear it often is beyond me, yet here I am.
Anyway, if you follow me on INSTAGRAM, you saw that I got some new things from ELF Cosmetics (Eyes, Lips, Face) a few days ago. This purchase mostly happened because I wanted the limited edition J.Glow Jackie Aina Clay Eyeshadow Palette. She’s been one of, if not my favourite YouTuber for some years now. With so many personalities and gurus springing up, it’s refreshing to see someone who is so down to earth and so unapologetically black. I love that she really centers her channel around celebrating women’s beauty, but particularly that of women of colour while pushing boundaries as far as what looks we dare to wear. So, when I saw that she finally got a brand collaboration with the brand that ushered me into the makeup world, I had to support.
J.Glow Clay Eyeshadow Palette by Jackie Aina
“These richly pigmented and silky smooth powders blend effortlessly onto the lid to create a natural looking or bold effect. Infused with Kaolin Clay to help keep your color locked in placed for long lasting wear. The custom curated palette of five harmonious shades help brighten, sculpt and define for a professional, gorgeous look.”
I was lucky enough to snag two of these before they sold out. I honestly don’t wear eyeshadow that often, but figured this would be worth the purchase since 1) they’re only $6 each, 2) I love Jackie Aina, and 3) the colours are neutral enough with a nice pop from the more maroon shade and blue one that I could use this every day.
Eyebrow Gel in Medium Brown
“This cream glides on smoothly to sculpt, shade, and define brows. It can also be used as eyeshadow or eyeliner for gorgeous, long-lasting color”
This was a vanity purchase….kill me. I was looking at all the girls with the “Instagram eyebrows” and in a moment of weakness wanted them myself. Brown gel products seemed to be the item of choice for these trendy brows, so I decided to snag one of these as a cheaper alternative for the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade I already owned in Auburn. My hair isn’t dyed anymore, so I opted for this colour. It’s a bit too dark and cool brown for my liking, so I might opt to use this as an eyeliner instead. It’s only $4.00 though so what the hell.
Molten Eyeshadow in Rose Gold
“Wash this hydrating liquid eyeshadow over lids for a vibrant, metallic look (and an irresistible cooling effect). The formula is infused with Purified Water and Vitamin E to help hydrate.”
I got this in the shade Rose Gold, which is described as a “shimmer natural pink nude.” I haven’t purchased anything from E.L.F. for a while now, and have never tried a liquid eyeshadow before so I figured at $4.00 now would be the time to experiment.
Eyebrow Duo Brush
“This convenient dual-sided brush includes a dense angled brush on one end to precisely fill in and contour brows while the wand side combs and shapes hair into place. Perfect to use with powder, cream, and gel formulas for a polished look.”
*See: temporary vanity need for ombre Instagram eyebrows* tools. $3.00.
“This brush is specifically designed for advanced makeup application to help achieve professional looks. The densely packed hair and structured shape achieves flawless dimension along the cheekbones, forehead, and jawline for targeted contouring. Perfect for using with pressed or loose bronzer powder, liquids, and creams to create beautiful sculpting all over the face. This brush is made by artisans with expert craftsmanship to cut, shape, and hand-assemble the ultra-fine synthetic hair for a luxurious experience.”
I *should* have paid mind to the “advanced makeup application” and “professional looks” part. I don’t do that. I didn’t need this damn brush. I barely know how to contour. Who am I? It was $6.00 though.
Beautifully Bare Blending Brush
“Creates a flawless look that’s beautiful and natural looking with our Blending Brush. The unique shape of the brush head provides even, streak-free coverage for a smooth, expertly blended effect. The ultra-fine synthetic fibers are hand cut, shaped, and assembled by artisans for expert craftsmanship for a luxury experience. The soft hair is vegan-friendly and easy to clean with e.l.f. Brush Shampoo.”
Hmm, how do I put this? It was small and looked nice. Also $6.00.
….and that’s the end of my mini E.L.F. haul.
