Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail Polish Is The Answer…..To Nothing: A Review

I thought I had found it….the answer to my nail polish woes. As you may or may not know, I thoroughly enjoy doing my nails. Though I haven’t had the time to devote to them the way I would like, I do still enjoy painting them and designing them. Lately however, maintaining my nails has been more difficult due to increased…hand activity? I’m faced with the dreaded “two day chip.” My freshly applied manicures succumb to those annoying little chips and cracks after a mere 48 hours, and I’m forced to be lazy and keep them until it chips off, or I just remove it and look for hope in the next colour.

With this in mind, I wandered through the aisles of CVS aimlessly looking at all of the polishes….left jaded by my previous experiences. This was until I laid my eyes on the display rack for the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polishes. I looked at the colourful advertisements, read the various advertisements, and was sold. Two weeks worth of wear? With a shine to rival all other nail polishes?? Sign me up!

I excitedly applied the polish to my nails a few hours after getting home, and was ecstatic. The experience went by with ease, the colour was beautiful, and the polish seemed sturdy and durable. This was the answer to my nail polish conundrum.

This was my sentiment until about 3 or 4 days in. My nails looked fabulous for the first couple of days, but then it started….the wear. Before my nails start to grow out, and the polish clearly no longer extends to my cuticles, it usually started to wear slightly at the tips of my nails. Once this starts happening, it all goes downhill. The polishes then start to develop small cracks, and little by little pieces start to fall off and chip away, or they get snagged on things and come off.

As you can see above, the polish applied splendidly. I didn’t think that my nails would encounter the same fate as other times, but I was wrong. I don’t have a picture of them after the couple of days when the top started to chip and develop the small cracks, but I do have one after I cut my nails to try to make them appear more presentable.

I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t look like two weeks worth of good wear to me. I was SO disappointed. It only took a week for my nails to start looking like this, and I don’t even do anything excessive with my hands. They went through the usual hand washes, physical activity (if that’s a thing), and the like, so I was expecting a liiiiitle bit if wear by week 1, but nothing like this! They literally started chipping after a couple days….right at my fingertips like I said earlier.

I’m not sure if maybe the colour “Truffle Shuffle” is the reason this happened, because I painted my nails incorrectly, or maybe I got a bad batch. Regardless, I was not pleased with this polish.

I give the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Polish a thumbs down for now.

And so, my hunt for a nail polish with some endurance continues. Maybe my trust issues will subside and I’ll be able to try another colour? Who knows? Do any of you have any polish recommendations?
