There aren’t too many products I regret purchasing for the sole reason that I usually don’t splurge on new products. I have definitely never had such an issue with a product that required me to return it…..until now.
I purchased this way back in May (May 17 to be exact), along with my Benefit Boi-ing! concealer, and the Sephora Collection MicroSmooth Baked Foundation. I had already been using De-Slick’s cousin, the All-Nighter spray, for about a year, and wanted to amp it up a bit. Without getting to into it, the All-Nighter spray does a decent to good job of keeping my makeup set all day, but some of my oils still peak through, and since I don’t wear lots of makeup on a daily basis, it starts to break down what I do have on sometimes. I wanted to try the De-Slick setting spray because I not only wanted to see how well it could battle my oiliness, but also keep my makeup looking flawless.
Urban Decay, De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray, $30.00 for the 4 oz. bottle
“Oily skin has met its match! De-Slick mists on weightlessly to control oil, deflect surface shine, and keep skin looking beautifully matte. High-tech ingredients help keep foundation, shadow, and blush from smudging, sliding, or fading—so you hardly ever need to touch up. Developed in an exclusive partnership with SKINDINÄVIA, this groundbreaking, clinically tested formula features patented Temperature Control Technology that actually lowers the temperature of your makeup to help it stay put and keep skin looking smooth, but never shiny.”
It did everything it promised, and it made my makeup look a m a z i n g. As I stated before, my face never got terribly oily with the All-Nighter spray, but there was absolutely no oil that peaked through with the De-Slick…none! I wore it on a light-medium coverage face for 8-12 hours every day for a week in relatively warm/hot weather, and by the end of the day my face looked like I had just applied my makeup. My makeup literally never looked as good as it did with this setting spray.
…so why would I never buy it again?
After 7 days, on May 24th I had to stop using it (It broke me out). My face is clear about 99% of the time, so when I start to break out, it means that the culprit is either a product or negligent skin care. I wasn’t neglecting my skin at the time, and the only new product I introduced to my skin was this spray. I broke out everywhere on my face. I had tiny bumps all over my forehead, cheeks, and chin…and they burned slightly whenever I put the spray on. I can’t figure out what about the spray irritated my skin so much, but I knew that I couldn’t wear it anymore (even if it was only after a week).
Everyone’s skin is different, so I won’t tell anyone not to buy the product, but just be cognizant of the fact that everyone’s skin is different, so approach with caution whenever you purchase products that will be going on your face.
For the purpose of the product, I would give it a 5/5
For myself, a 2/5…and I don’t think I could ever buy it again.
